When we defined the word “Architecture” the first thing that comes up in our mind, it is the combination of art and science, that’s the general definition. But in the industry of Architecture, this word means a lot. It can be mean in different ways to different people. There’s no wrong answer.
I believed architecture is limitless. There’s no limit in creating or building a wonderful structures. By using our creative and artistic skill we can always create different things out of ordinary. In a simple things in nature or things around us can be our inspiration. And by this we can be create a wonderful world of art. In architecture, there’s no expiration, everything that architects build always be cherish and important. Expression and emotion can also translate in architecture. This emotion transform into an art or a structure. This is where they want use to feel there emotion through the structure. They let the structure to speak it-self enough to the viewer. It’s like the structure has language.
Every amazing structure there is always someone who will criticize whether positive or negative criticism. But criticism is not a bad thing, it is a good thing because someone notice and appreciate the design and the concept of the structure. Let it be serving as a guide to create more amazing structure that will excide there expectation.
Art is become part of my life. At my young age, I grew up in an environment of artistic. I love to draw and create something useful out of ordinary things. But as my adolescents period come I stop doing drawing because of negative criticism. It hurts my pride so I decided to stop. I didn’t plan to be an Architect. I have different plans for myself. But by the time goes by I never stop appreciate art especially when I saw in discovery channel the buildings and plans for Dubai and Singapore. In my 3rd year I decided to take up Architecture as my course and be my future profession. I know it will be tough but I do because this is what I want.
As I enter at De La Salle- College of St. Benilde as an Architecture student. In there I realized that never stop designing even someone criticized your work, let it be a challenge and inspiration. And know I stood up to defend my work to see what my vision in my design is. It helps me become a strong person and prepare me for reality. In a short year I realized so many things about architecture.
At first, creating a structure that your clients want to and creating beautiful structure. That’s what I believed at first. But I learned before I design something it means so much consideration and purpose. I need a connection in nature, in people, in culture and even in climate and so much more. Before I can create a structure that will pull the people to look and see what I made. Connection is a very important thing in Architecture. The connection that I consider will keep the bound between my structure and the viewer. Without that kind of connection no one will notice or appreciate my work.
I realized while I was in my History of Philippine Architecture class, architecture is like the Philippine architecture, they both doesn’t have any distinctive look. Everything was mix and influenced by different culture and time. It evolves through time.
In the future I want to be someone who will know me for what kind of structure I will design or built. In my design I always want to put movements whether it is straight lines or curves. I want my structure to stand with rhythm and open. What do I mean to stand with rhythm; I mean that I want my structure to be different in its surrounding. Just like the Aqua Tower in old Chicago. When I saw this structure at BluPrint magazine, it affects my perspective in design. It gives me the motivation that this is the path that I want to take. This building becomes my great inspiration. It stood up and not afraid to be different in other buildings and it gives life to the city. That’s what I want to achieve, that’s what I want to create. I want my element to be movements, pattern, curves and repetition. These elements keep the structure alive and unique. I think that is also the reason why I like most of the works of Zaha Hadid, because of flow and the movements in her designs. What do I mean by open; I want to create a structure inside was wide open that will embrace nature or it will feel spacious. I want to create an illusion that the space is wide, even though the space is quite small. This will help my client to move freely in that kind of space. This is all my objectives when I will become an architect.
Architecture is one of highest form of design. It is a multitasking job. It is not just combination of science also management or in business. It is a social art and science where we talk to our client’s needs and wants. And also get a project in different town or in different country. For me this kind of job is fit for me. I don’t want to sit in the office for the rest of my career, I want to meet people, to travel, to know different culture and to learn new things. And create something that will become a trademark of a country and a landmark. I know that’s all students of architecture want to commit. Many want to belong in the list of great architects just like Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Palafox, Philip Johnson and so much more. This people are the one giving me an inspiration because of their amazing structures that they built and design. This is what I really want to be and love to do.
